| Charles Kim, M.D., Chief, Colon and Rectal Division, St. Joseph's Hospital, Towson, Maryland is among a handful of surgeons with the experience and skill to perform basic and advanced procedures with the laparoscopic approach. Dr. Kim is nationally recognized for his unprecedented achievements as a teaching instructor and surgeon using the latest technology and techniques for laparoscopic colon surgery. He is the first surgeon to perform abdomino-perineal resection for rectal cancers with the laparoscopic approach and continues to pioneer new techniques using cutting-edge technology. He has trained many surgeons in the United States and foreign countries. Dr. Kim is also a prime investigator for a National Cancer Institute study, comparing the outcomes of open traditional colon cancer surgery and the laparoscopic approach for colon cancer.
