Hand-Assisted Colon Removal

A continuous vertical incision is made above and below the umbilicus ranging from 6.0-8.0cm. A hand-assisted device is placed at the incision in order to keep air inside the abdomen. The hand of the surgeon then enters the abdominal cavity by way of this device. Incisions of 0.5cm and 1.2cm are made on the abdomen in order to place ports for the instrument and camera respectively.

The remainder of the surgery is identical to that of laparascopic surgery.
